As you may know, I am type A personality. I like to go, go, go. This has gotten me very far in life; however, it has also made me feel like I am always rushing and short on time. Years ago, when my daughter was very young, we were rushing out the door, and she looked up and asked me, “Are we in a hurry again today mommy?” This crushed me and changed my life! I think about this moment every time I find myself rushing through life.
I recently experienced a similar situation, again with my daughter. We were on a trip together, getting ready for an important event, and the entire day I felt rushed, short on time, and very frazzled. My daughter could feel it, and yet again called me out on it. I realized that living with the constant feeling of lack ruins the present moment. I know many of you reading this blog may feel like there is never enough time, and I’m here to tell you that even when you think, “there is not enough time”, there always is.
Take back control of your life with these top tips for managing your time.
1. Be aware of your thoughts. Time is a function of the mind, we are often thinking forward into the future or ruminating about the past. The mind likes to tell us that we don’t have enough time. Bring yourself back to the present moment, and change the thought reel by repeating a positive word or phrase such as a mantra or affirmation.
2. Make a to-do list. When we write things down, we can let our minds take a break from remembering all that we need to get done. Rank your to-dos, and remember you don’t have to get everything done to be ok. Do your best, and you can release the small priorities for another day.
3. Stop, Breathe, and begin again. When you’re feeling completely frazzled and overwhelmed, allow yourself to stop, take a breath, and start again. The few seconds we take to regroup can be a game changer.
I hope these tips help you. Remember that everything unfolds with divine timing, reaffirm that you will get done all that needs to get done, and trust in the timing of your life.
