“Just as the food we eat nourishes and strengthens the body, the books we read for inspiration nourish and enrich the mind. I thrive in my life and feed my soul with the reading I do daily.”
I am thrilled to tell you that December is Spiritual Literacy Month- how fabulous is this? WE have a Spiritual Literacy month! If you know me and my work, you definitely know that reading for inspiration is one of my greatest passions in life- it is pure joy. I spend time every day reading from one of the works by or about the great masters, mystics, saints, and teachers.
In my book and through the teachings of The Practice, I encourage everyone to read at least a few paragraphs a day from a book that they find inspirational. Why? Because these books inspire us to live our best life— a life filled with love, purpose, and meaning. They support us on our spiritual journey, holding us by the hand and gently guiding us along our path. So many have traveled this road before us, when we read their trials and tribulations we never feel alone. Actually just the opposite- we realize that they did not come into life possessing something special that we don’t have- no they are just like us. You begin to believe, “If they can do it I can do it.”
Reading for inspiration is a beautiful, relaxing way to close out your day. Think about this- each night is the night before the rest of your life. When we get into bed the day is over. We can learn to sleep, letting go of everything, knowing we can not change anything, and be at peace with our day.
I practice Letting Go just before sleep:
* I spend 5-10 minutes reflecting on my day, without judgment just looking back to gain awareness.
* Next, I do my inspirational reading, letting the words of these great teachers nourish me and inspire me.
* Lastly, I turn off the light, close my eyes and start repeating my sacred mantra as I drift off to sleep.
This is truly a way to be present for life by closing out the day, knowing I did the best I could and if I’m blessed to have another day I will wake up new and fresh.
I hope you have been enjoying my blogs “Studying with the Masters.” If you haven’t read them take a look back at this beautiful practice. My practice has changed my life over the past 31 years and I can absolutely say that the inspirational reading I do daily has been a huge part of my recovery and transformation. I love it so much.
It is my deep desire that you find teachers that speak to your heart, you pick up their teachings, and walk your path hand and hand with them.
It is an honor and privilege to walk this path with you, learning and growing together.
I’m sending you love and offering you best wishes for, happy, inspirational reading!
